WHO IS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT?

International students are those attending Sacred Heart School on an F-1 Visa from the US Department of State and who are not United States citizens.

WELCOME!

Sacred Heart School is open to admitting international students in grades PK-8 who are residing with either a parent or a relative in Del Rio or as a daily commuter student from our sister city, Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico. All students in grades K-8 must speak English.

The parents or guardian must schedule an orientation meeting with the administrator. This meeting is required for all parents or guardians of new students. The purpose of the orientation meeting is to provide an explanation of the philosophy, objectives, and guidelines of SHS.

Following the orientation meeting, a parent/student interview with an administrator must be scheduled. The purpose of this interview is to review the student’s background (school history, scholastic and behavioral records) and to assess the student’s prospect for success at SHS.

Students entering kindergarten must be evaluated for school readiness prior to placement in a class. All incoming students in grades K-8 will be evaluated by taking a computer-generated Reading and Math exam in English. The administration works with the family to analyze and determine the acceptable grade placement of the child. After completion of all requirements, a decision is made on the student’s acceptance to the program.

Parents/guardians of prospective students in PK-grade 8 must submit the Registration and Application Forms outlined in the application instructions for admission as well as the I-20 Form.

For more information about applying for admission as an International Student Program, contact the school at 830-775-3274 or schooloffice@shsdelrio.org.
